Queries are rate limited per user. Burst, subscription, and sustained limits apply independently and together: each request must pass all three limits. Subscription limits do not override the burst limit. Exceeding any limit returns HTTP 429 (Too Many Requests).
| Limit type | |
|---|---|
| Burst queries | 5 per second |
| Subscription queries | 5 per minute by default; configurable per user |
| Sustained queries | 50 per day by default; configurable per user |
| Polygon queries |
|
| Point queries | 10 points per query |
| Number of records returned (dates) |
|
For example, a user with the default limits can make five requests in one second, but must then wait until the one-minute subscription window allows more requests. The daily sustained limit also applies.
Subscription and sustained limits use the rates configured in the user profile. An empty rate disables only that limit. Staff users bypass subscription and sustained limits. The burst limit still applies to staff users and users with unlimited subscription or sustained rates.
Each user is allocated to a 'subscription' package. Please contact the TerraClim team to enquire about getting an API subscription.
